Monthly baby picture ideas to document your baby’s growth! A great collection of ideas for taking monthly baby photos!
Today Little A turns one! Yay!
I can’t believe how fast the year has gone by. I am in denial that she is now technically a toddler. It’s crazy to me that I don’t have a baby anymore!
But at the same time, it’s so much fun! She is such a sweet, energetic, and happy baby and we are all better because she is in our family.
To celebrate her birthday, I am going to do a few weeks of birthday-themed posts! Today I’m sharing cute monthly baby picture ideas, on Monday I’m sharing a roundup of first birthday pictures, then cake smash tips, and then a series called “How to Throw a Pinterest-Worthy Party” with four separate posts featuring the rainbow sprinkles first birthday party I am throwing for her next weekend. To say that I’m excited about her first birthday is an understatement.
Anyway, I have seen so many cute ideas for documenting your baby’s first year, and I wanted to share some of my favorite ways with you today!
Monthly Baby Picture Ideas
Monthly Onesies
Dress your baby in monthly onesies and take pictures to document their first year
Baby in a Frame
Take a picture of your baby inside the same frame every month to see how much they grow
In a Chair
Set your baby in the same chair and take a picture of him every month
In the Crib
Lay baby in her crib and take a picture from above every month
With a Stuffed Animal
Compare your baby to a stuffed animal and take a picture with the same one every month
In a Laundry Basket
Take a picture from above of your growing baby in a laundry basket
Age Spelled Out with Magnets or Felt Letters
Use magnets or felt letters to spell out how old your baby is above their head
Write Details of Each Month on a Chalkboard
Include their name and age on a chalkboard, with some of their favorites, size, or things you don't want to forget
Add a Balloon for Each Month
Take a picture of your baby each month with balloons for every month old they are
Mom Holds Baby
Start with a belly bump photo, then take a photo each month holding your baby to see how big they grow
With Wooden Numbers
Take pictures of your baby holding wooden numbers that represent how many months old they are
On a Whiteboard with Details
Another way to include details like height and weight or favorite foods
Being Lifted in the Air
Take a picture of your baby being held aloft each month. This one may require an extra pair of hands!
Aren’t those all such cute ideas? If you want to do a monthly picture to document your baby’s growth, I recommend picking one BEFORE your baby is born! That way, you can get started right when they are born! And don’t forget to check out these first birthday picture ideas!

Super cute ideas! I feel it is unfair for me to start now, since my other kids won’t have that! Ha ha… plus, I always forget until a week or two has passed. But I love all the ideas!

Haha thanks! It’s so fun to compare all the pictures together at the end. And I’m sure your two older kids wouldn’t be too upset if you started for your youngest now!

These are all fun ideas. I did monthly descriptions for my kids and love looking back and reading them. All the details trigger heartwarming memories and help me to cherish the little moments. These are such fun ideas! I just worry my other two will feel bad that I did not do anything nearly as cool for them! It’s crazy how much things change from the first to the third!

Agreed! Sometimes I see cute things I want to do with future babies and I worry about that, too!

Great round up on this post! A few of them I haven’t seen before! For my son’s first year, I tried to capture him with some “gentleman” props to play off his name Gentry. I think it came out okay!
