Currently August 2017: What’s going on this month for Life With My Littles
Hey mamas! Big, big changes over here. If you don’t follow me on Instagram you probably don’t know, but we moved to Minnesota! WHAT? I know. It probably seems like it happened out of the blue, but I assure you it did not. It did happen super fast, though! My husband just wasn’t happy in his specialty and had been struggling all year to decide if he wanted to stick with it, and we finally decided to switch to something else! He finished his intern year, we listed our house, sold it in three days for more than we asked, and moved two weeks later. I had to take a little time off of blogging because we were so crazy busy, but I am back now! We also went on a trip to visit family a few days after that, so we have been busy bees the last month!
July was a fabulous month though, despite the craziness. The Fourth of July was so much fun. We lived right outside the city limits of San Antonio, so fireworks were legal. We got a bunch and our friends got a bunch and we had a blast (hahahaha). Little R slept through the whole thing, and I am definitely going to miss the Fourth of July in Texas next year. I also got to swim with dolphins at Sea World, which was seriously the best birthday gift ever. They have been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember (you should see the collection of dolphin things I have stashed at my parents’ house), so it was seriously just a dream come true. We also tried to enjoy everything we could about Texas before we moved, so we went to a few of our favorite restaurants, visited a little town called Gruene (but you say it “green”), and then on the way to our new home we stopped in Waco and went to Magnolia Market! I have only seen a few episodes of Fixer Upper, but I really wanted to go so we did! It was amazing and even better than I imagined it and I’m so glad we took the time to go before leaving Texas. We also got to stop in Des Moines on the way up to Minnesota, which is where we went for medical school, and we got to drive by our old apartments, which was fun to see. And then we visited my family and my husband’s family and got to meet my sister’s baby for the first time! Overall, a fabulous month!
Here’s what’s currently going on this month:
Settling into our new home. We are renting a little country home right now and it is so much different than our house in San Antonio. I loved, loved, loved our house there, but it was in a neighborhood with so many houses packed into a small space, and even though we were outside of the city a ways, it was still so busy everywhere we went! Our house here is about 10 minutes from the store so it’s definitely accessible, but it’s on 1.4 acres and feels so open and free! We love it! We are mostly unpacked besides decor and I need to organize a few things, but it’s wonderful!
Adjusting to cooler temperatures. Goodness, moving from San Antonio to Minnesota is about a 20 degree difference most days. It feels so nice to be outside for more than a minute without getting sweaty. My husband put up a swing for our daughter and we got our son a bow and arrow because we can just be outside and not even be hot! So yeah, I think we’re enjoying the cooler temps!
Looking forward to the school year. Little J starts preschool next month and I signed Little A up for a dance class that runs through the school year. I’m excited for them to start and to make friends and learn new things. Little J is so ready for school, and Little A loves dancing and is really excited to start. Plus, I am excited to get them everything they need for their classes!
Loving being close to our best friends. So when we moved to Iowa for med school we met this couple who basically became our immediate friends. She was pregnant and due two weeks ahead of me, and he was in all the same classes as my husband since they were both first year med students. We lived super close and hung out all the time, and once our boys were born, they became best friends. We moved away when they were 2 and have seen them a few times since. We’ve always talked about wanting to live by each other, and now that we finally are like 15 minutes away from each other, we love it! The boys are just in heaven playing together and it’s like they just picked up where they left off. It has been amazing so far and I know it’s only going to get better!
Celebrating Little R’s half birthday! How is my baby already 6-months-old!? Time is a jerk, guys. He is suddenly so big and sitting up and so interested in trying to grab everything. He is the happiest little guy, loves attention and his older siblings, and hates being in his car seat. We love having him in our family and I love watching him grow!
Well that’s it! So far we are glad to be here in Minnesota and even though I am not looking forward to the snow, we know that this is where we are supposed to be and we are excited for the next few years!

I’m so happy that the stars aligned and things just sort of fell into place while you were moving! Your new house sounds awesome! 1.4 acres is a dream! And you already have friends there? So amazing!
Carver also hated being in his car seat. I feel for you. It is so hard to enjoy going somewhere when somebody hates the ride. It got better with age, though. Carver loves being in his car seat now and tells me to “Go!” and that there are “CARS!!!!!!” on the road. Our portable DVD player also worked wonders.

Yeah, things have been going wonderfully! I’m glad Carver likes the car seat now! Little R is a little better now that our rides are shorter since we are home, but man, it was rough on the road trip!!
