Why I used Amazon Baby Registry, why it’s the best place to register for a baby, and why you should use it, too!

One of my favorite things to do when I was pregnant with my first baby was to create a baby registry. My husband and I had so much fun picking everything out that we wanted people to buy us for our baby. The only problem was that we were limited to the things that were in the store. Even if there was a color we liked more than one that store had, we couldn’t register for it. It was a bummer.
This time around, I got smart and decided to try out Amazon Baby Registry. I’ve heard great things about it (I mean it’s Amazon, so how could it not be amazing?) and I wanted to see if it really was all that great. And before you get on me for registering for my third baby, yes, I did. Just because I already had two kids doesn’t mean that we didn’t still need a few things for our third baby!
Anyway, Amazon Baby Registry is different from other registries (like Target or Babies ‘R’ Us) in several amazing ways. First, not only can you add anything from Amazon.com, but you can add anything from any other website! So if there is a gorgeous maternity/nursing robe you want to add that’s not available on Amazon but is on another website, you can still add it to your registry! I think this is probably my favorite thing about the Amazon Baby Registry, and it is by far the number one reason I chose to register there. It makes it so convenient because you really only have to register in one place because you can add things from any store! Practical things (like diapers), cute outfits (from your favorite baby sites), or that perfect swaddle you want that is made and sold by a small-business mama who doesn’t sell her products on Amazon. You can add them all to your Amazon Baby Registry! It’s genius.
Third, returns are super easy. If for some reason you get two of something or end up not liking something in person, you can easily return it if it was sold and shipped by Amazon. Just use their online returns center and the step-by-step instructions will guide you through the process so you can get an Amazon.com gift card for the return. And some baby products are even eligible for an extended 90-day return (instead of 30 days like most products)! Which is super handy in case you get a bunch of newborn diapers and then end up having a big baby who grows out of them quickly!
Amazon Baby Registry is also super convenient for people purchasing gifts for you and your baby. Anyone from anywhere can find your registry and order you a gift, even if they live out of the country. And it can easily be shipped right to your home because Amazon stores your address (but doesn’t show it to people) for friends and family who might not be able to come to your shower.
I highly recommend registering with Amazon Baby Registry over every other registry because it’s easy, convenient, comprehensive, and you can get a discount on things that your friends and family don’t purchase for you! Check it out and have fun registering!

I’m definitely going to check this out! I have heard so many people say I don’t need anything for baby #2, but that’s just not true!!
Chelsea Johnson says
Oh yeah, you for sure still will!! Don’t listen to them! You won’t need as much, but you still need stuff 🙂

I love the Amazon registry. It makes things so much easier! I registered with Oliver there simply because I wanted the discount they give you at the end – plus they sent a great baby welcome package!
Chelsea Johnson says
I didn’t know they send a welcome package! I didn’t get one!
Amy says
I truly wished that I would have done this. I learned the hard way from baby #1 that a BabiesRUs registry was not the way to go. If we ever have another, I will go straight to Amazon.
Chelsea Johnson says
We used Babies R Us with our first, too. Never again!

Is there a way to set up the Amazon baby registry so gifts can be sent to the gift givers home instead of to mine. I received my first baby registry gift today via UPS and I’m wondering if people will be ok with having it shipped directly to me instead of being able to bring a present to the baby shower. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Chelsea Johnson says
They can decide to have it sent to their home or to yours, so if it showed up at your house then I am guessing they wanted it sent there!

I just made my registry yesterday! I won’t be having a baby shower, but it was a nice thing to make in order to share with others just in case they wanted to gift the baby.inlovr the variety of items and even the suggestions of items they give! Definitely nice! And also a lady gifted me with a carrier and I’ve never met her a day in my life, so I’m grateful because everybody single thing helps.
Chelsea Johnson says
Exactly! Every thing does help, and making a list to at least have on hand for people who want to help is great! Congrats on your new baby!

When does the welcome package ship?

Hi Chelsea,
First of all: beautiful family!
And now to my questions: How long did it take to return a gift to get a gift card back? Was the gift card actually mailed to you or did you just get credit on your Prime account?
And if you returned multiple gifts from the same person: did you do it do it all at once in one box or mail each item back separately? I’m concerned with a careless employee returning only two of three things in a box if they are in a rush.
Thanks for answering my questions!
Chelsea Johnson says
Thanks Carrie! I’m sorry, but I haven’t had experience returning any of the gifts I received. You’ll have to contact Amazon and ask!
Katelyn Stukas says
How do I add from other sites? I want to add the Target brand diapers from Target and my crib from Pottery Barn?
Chelsea Johnson says
You need to have the little registry button installed on your browser: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200351530

I used Amazon Baby Registry as well (And published a blog post about it too!) and am so happy I did. My family is from ALL OVER so I had them ship the bigger items right to me (hello prime shipping!) And that welcome box was awesome, it was nice to get little samples of prime recommended items and learn all about the Amazon Family subscription service. The one thing I didn’t really put on my Amazon registry were clothing items and toys, I registered at Target for those because I know my family would rather shop for those kind of items.
Chelsea Johnson says
Great idea! I love Target’s baby clothes!!

How does Prime work with Amazon’s Registry? Does the buyer need to have PRIME to send the gift free to the registrar’s home? I’m assuming so. It won’t make any difference if the register has Prime, correct?
Chelsea Johnson says
I think just like anything on Amazon, if you have Prime and you buy a something with Prime free shipping, you don’t have to pay shipping, regardless of if the person who registered has Prime.
Mrs. S says
Does the buyer have to have a amazon account in order to purchase from the Registry?
Chelsea Johnson says
Yes, they do. They don’t have to have Prime though, if that’s what you’re asking. If they don’t have Prime, they’ll have to pay shipping.
Ali says
If you add a product from a different store (say buybuybaby) onto the Amazon registry, does it update the amazon registry if it was purchased at the store? I guess I’m asking, do the multiple registries sync up if an item is bought?
Chelsea Johnson says
It doesn’t sync your Amazon and Buy, Buy, Baby registries together. If it’s purchased in their store (rather than online), definitely not, but I’m not 100% sure about online. I’m guessing no, because Amazon doesn’t own Buy, Buy, Baby and can’t see their transactions.
Shanika Clark says
Do the recipients of the gifts get notified immediatly when items are purchased or do they find out when delivered?
Chelsea Johnson says
I think it’s just when they are delivered, unless they look at their registry frequently enough to see that something has been purchased. You can look and see if they have a better answer in their FAQ section!
