Currently March 2017: What’s going on this month for Life With My Littles
Hey mama friends! Last month was so nice because as you probably noticed, I took two weeks off after our baby was born. He was born a week early (on January 29th) and my husband got to stay home with us for a week of paternity leave, which was amazing. We have been adjusting to our new life as a family of five, and it really has been a great transition. Little J and Little A are such good kids and they really play well by themselves, and Little R sleeps a lot so it hasn’t been that difficult! Now I’m not saying it has been easy, but it definitely could be worse!
Anyway, I am back now and have lots of awesome posts lined up this month. So besides the obvious I just had a baby part of this month’s currently (you can read the birth story here), here’s what else is going on this month:
Celebrating Little J’s birthday! Our oldest’s birthday is coming up on Monday. I can’t believe our little guy will be four!! That seriously is so crazy to me. We decided not to throw him a party because we have a newborn in the house and there’s no way I’m going to plan a party (which, by the way, I do love doing). Anyway, he told me he wants a Mater cake (as in Mater from Cars), so I’m going to be making that over the weekend. My husband has a pretty tough and busy schedule this month, so we aren’t going to officially celebrate until the middle of the month. The plan is to go to a go-kart place and let Little J drive around as much as he wants. He’s a surprisingly good driver, and he has been wanting to go there for his birthday since we first went last summer. So that’s the plan!
Growing our garden. My husband planted our garden just a few days after Little R was born, so it’s been going strong for almost a month now! We decided to focus on berries, so we have a ton of strawberries, two blackberry plans, a blueberry plant, and a raspberry plant. We also have one basil plant, three kinds of pepper plants, a few pea plants, some onions, and some potatoes. Hopefully everything turns out! We have really loved gardening, and since moving here in May this is our third time planting! I also planted some peonies so we’ll see how those do.
Loving winter in Texas. As if I need to explain this one. Texas winters are THE BOMB. For real. It has been amazing because the temperature is pretty much perfect for playing outside every day. We have been on “adventures” (aka hikes) a lot and the kids love them. After living in cold places where it snows a ton our whole lives, my husband and I are really enjoying not having snow. We may never move back to a cold climate!!
Discovering bullet journaling. I am a big note taker and list maker, but I have all of my notes and lists in several different notebooks. A few weeks ago while I was nursing Little R I stumbled upon the amazing world of bullet journals. After doing tons of searching on Pinterest for inspiration and making a big list of things I wanted to include in mine, I started my own bullet journal and was able to put all of my notes and lists in one place. It has been amazing, and even though I’ve never considered myself to be super creative or artsy, I think I have done a good job at making it look good. I’m sure how I journal will evolve as I get more into it, but so far, I am loving it! The possibilities of bullet journaling really are endless!
Setting goals. Last month I read The Happiness Project and while it didn’t inspire me to go crazy and start my own happiness project, it did inspire me to make a few goals each month. Last month I set a few (set a weekly blogging schedule, eat a vegetable every day, read two books, finish a chapter of my book) goals and tried to think about them a lot. I think I have come up with a productive weekly blogging schedule so I can focus on specific things each day and not waste the limited amount of time that I get to work. I am trying to make my goals align with my resolutions that I made for 2017, so hopefully I will be able to accomplish all of the bigger goals through these smaller ones!
Enjoying all the new baby products we’ve been able to have this time around. As a blogger, I have been super fortunate to be able to partner with some amazing companies to try out their products. Some of my favorites have been DockATot, Owlet, Baby Bare Essentials, and Ryan and Rose. I’ve talked about all of these or will talk about them in future posts, but I just love these companies and the products they make to make parents’ lives easier. As I type this Little R is actually in his DockATot right next to my desk! He loves it!
Recovering from kidney stones. Last week I woke up in the middle of the night with bad pain, and my doctor husband diagnosed it as kidney stones so we decided to head to the hospital. The pain was awful and after they finally gave me some medicine, I was able to pass two of them. Unfortunately, I still have two so I have some pain medicine that they gave me for when that happens so I can pass them at home. Not looking forward to that!
Well that’s what’s going on this month for us! Make sure you follow along on Instagram to see all of our adventures and more of my favorite things!

Holy crap! Kidney stone while still recovering from labor! Hope you are doing better!
Chelsea Johnson says
Yeah, right? And funny enough, the resident who was at the hospital when we went in for kidney stones was the same one who delivered Little R! We were like oh hey!
Jennifer says
Winters down South are seriously the best! I’m so inspired by your garden! I think we’re going to do some planting soon!
Chelsea Johnson says
I know! And thanks! I would love to hear what you plant if you decide to do it!
Christine says
You have such a beautiful family! I’m envious of your new baby snuggles! I miss them. My baby’s 18 months now! I’m sorry to hear about your kidney stones. How painful! And what horrible timing with you trying to recover from having a baby!
Chelsea Johnson says
Thank you! And yes, bad timing! I was like are we really going back here again? Didn’t I just get out!?
Meg says
Kidney stones with a new baby? We’ll that’s just not fair. I hope you’re better soon! And I’ve toyed some with bullet journaling but not in earnest yet. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Chelsea Johnson says
Right? Haha thanks. I haven’t passed any more so hopefully they worst is behind me!!

I love that you’re journaling! I still need to try out bullet journaling. And I’m so jealous that you’ve started a garden already! It’s been raining non-stop here for a week!
Chelsea Johnson says
Oh man! It finally just started raining here. It kept saying it was going to and then didn’t, but the last few days have been so wet!
