Currently July 2016: What’s going on this month for Life With My Littles
You know how sometimes your life just flies by and all of a sudden two months have gone by? That’s how I feel. We’ve been in Texas for two months and my husband finally had to start his job last Friday. We’ve had a lot of fun exploring our new city and spending lots of family time together the last two months (my parents even came into town), but now it’s time to settle back into a routine and get back to real life.
We were super busy this month so I basically didn’t accomplish any of my goals and I didn’t post on Instagram as much as I would’ve liked, but I think now that life is back to “normal” I am going to be able to get more done this month. Also, it’s birthday month! Hooray!
Here’s what’s going on for us this month:
Enjoying our slowly-getting-decorated home. At the end of May my friend found a dresser at a garage sale and bought it for me for $10. I painted it NAVY using BB Frösch chalk paint powder and the Behr color Indigo Ink. It turned out amazing and it’s now right underneath our TV in the living room. I also finished the gallery wall in our living room and our bedroom, and am starting to get the kids’ playroom in order. The only thing I have left to do really is sew curtains for the playroom, design some prints for the playroom, and build our entry table (ambitious, I know). But this is our first house and I want to make it exactly what I want. I’m only filling it with things I love and it has been amazing. Look out for a home tour post either this month or next.
Settling back into our routine and continuing to take it slow for a while. I had originally planned on going back to posting three times a week once my husband started his job, but guys, I don’t think that’s going to happen right now. I am still struggling a bit to get two posts up every week and stay on top of everything else behind-the-scenes that bloggers have to do, so for now, we’re sticking with two posts. Little J doesn’t nap anymore and that was basically the only time I got every day to blog, so until I can figure out how to manage my time better, you’re going to have to be happy with two posts. It’s all about priorities, and my top priority is my family.
Anticipating July 31st. Why, you ask? Because that is when my copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be shipped to me. My husband and I were actually supposed to go to London last month without the kids and see the play in person, but because my husband’s orientation for residency was earlier than anticipated (and a few other unplanned surprises like our car dying), we had to cancel the trip. So I am just going to have to enjoy reading my copy of the script when it gets here at the end of the month. And yeah, it’s a big deal.
Planning more structured lessons for Little J and getting back into tot school for Little A. I really haven’t done much since April because we were packing and then moving and then getting settled and then exploring. But now I really want to get back into planning preschool and tot school for the kids. We love doing it and it helps our days go a lot better, so I’m excited to get back into it.
Hoping to get some more work done on my book. I basically didn’t write anything in my book at all this month, and that really bums me out. I did figure out how I’m going to do the photoshoot for the cover (no spoilers!), but other than that I didn’t write at all. My friend Jessica posted this thing on her Instagram a few months ago about the creative process, and how at first you’re all pumped and think what you’re writing is awesome and then about halfway in you’re basically like this is worthless and awful and nobody is going to read it, and that’s where I’m stuck. I just need to get over that little hump and get back on the writing train!
Thankful for my family. My kids are seriously so big. We were sitting in church the other day and I looked at my son and almost started crying because he just suddenly seemed so big to me. He’s almost 3 1/2, and Little A is going to be 2 in September. It’s insane and makes me so sad that I will never get them as babies again. They are such special little people and I love having them close in age and watching them be each other’s best friend. They are my priority and I want to make sure they know that.
That’s all I’ve got for today! Hope everyone has a fantastic July and I can’t wait to share some exciting things with you this month!

Lots going on! I didn’t know a new Harry Potter was coming out. Exciting! And I’m right there with you on time availability. It’s hard when the kids don’t nap!!

Yes! It’s actually the script of the play that is currently going on in London, so it’s not the same as the original 7, but I’ve heard the play is amazing so I can hardly wait!!!

That’s the right way to decorate! When I redecorated our house (after decorating it according to a model home’s style, yuck) I did the same thing. Just slowly decorated so that each thing that came in was something I loved. I’m still decorating!
I posted that thing about the creative process because it’s so true, I feel like I go through those exact same stages constantly; definitely get over that hump, you are an amazing writer. And even if we don’t feel like amazing writers, we should remember that the world is always hungry for new content. It’s not like if someone else has already written about it that it means no one will want to read yours, etc. Not speaking directly to you but just in general, all these crazy things that go through our heads that tell us we shouldn’t write because who would read it. As a reader, I LOVE new content! I can’t wait to read your book!
I feel you on the kids growing up thing :'( Mine are 3 and 5 right now. I was thinking that when they’re 4 and 6 they’ll REALLY seem so big to me. 5 and under is like the little crowd, so 6 seems like we’ll be enter middle childhood and the little years will be over 🙁 Hold me lol
Loved this update!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who decorates that way! It really is so much better and then you’re so much happier with the final product! I think it drive smy husband crazy but at least I’ll only have to do it once instead of lots of times because I hate how I do it the first time! And thank you! I am still in a little bit of a hole right now but I think in the next few weeks I’ll figure it out and get back on track!! I can’t believe your oldest is almost 6! That really does seem old! I remember before our son was born we had some friends who had a 5-year-old and I was like, in awe at how big she seemed. But time just goes so fast!!!
Thanks so much, Jessica!!
