One thing I’ve never been very good about is making my kids do chores. I’m pretty particular about the way I want things done, so I usually just do everything myself.
But I also believe in giving kids responsibilities and teaching them independence, and when I do everything myself, my kids aren’t given an opportunity to learn.
So after a lot of thought and narrowing down chores and trying to find a chore chart I liked, I finally just designed my own chore charts for my kids. I wanted one that was simple and easy to understand, was easy to mark off and reuse, and had all the chores for a week listed in one place. So I made some!
I posted my charts to Instagram and 40/41 people said they’d be interested in them if I put them here, so here they are! Free to download, and free to use!
So far they’ve actually inspired my kids to do things around the house they used to never do (like make beds or do dishes) and they really like getting to mark off each chore when they’re completed. Some chores don’t get marked off every day (like taking out the trash or putting away laundry), but that’s totally fine! I opted to just leave them in the same section rather than breaking it down by weekly and daily chores.
We haven’t 100% decided what to do with the completed chores yet. I’m thinking either a set amount of money each week when they do what they’re supposed to, maybe counting up the X’s and giving them 10 cents per X each week, or maybe doing like a prize box each time they get a certain number of X’s. There are tons of options so just pick what’s best for your family.
Also, the original charts I made my kids have their names on them, but the printable ones just have a blank space for you to write their names. You can print them off each week, or laminate them to make them reusable (which is what we did).
I’d love to see these chore charts in action, so if you share them to Insta, make sure and tag me @lifewmylittles! Good luck, mamas!
