This garlic butter dipping sauce is the perfect dip or side for your pizza party! It’s not greasy and not too garlicky like some dips. Tastes just like Domino’s garlic sauce and it only takes three ingredients!
If there’s one thing that could make eating pizza any better, it’s this.
In our family, we eat pizza a lot. Like, at least once a week, and some times even more.
Eating pizza is normally a wonderful, beautiful experience, but when you add in this delicious garlic butter dipping sauce, oh my goodness. It’s heaven.
You can’t go wrong adding butter or garlic to anything, and this dip is an easy and fast side for pizza that really makes a big difference. It’s good for dipping the crust in, and I also like to dip my actual pizza in it.
The best part is that this recipe isn’t runny or greasy like some butter sauces I’ve tried. So, you’re welcome, because basically I just upped your pizza game.
Garlic Butter Dipping Sauce
This garlic butter dipping sauce is the perfect dip or side for your pizza party! It's not greasy and not too garlicky like some dips. Tastes just like Dominos garlic butter sauce and it only takes three ingredients!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
Instructions
- Melt butter in a saucepan on medium.
- Spoon off the foam that you get on top. That's where the greasiness comes from.
- Stir in garlic powder and salt until dissolved.
- Remove from heat to a small dish and enjoy! You now have the perfect dipping sauce to complement your pizza!
I don’t make this as often as I should, but when I do, I get lots of compliments and requests for more. Even my kids like it!
Thanks to this phenomenal garlic butter dipping sauce, pizza night has never been better! Try it once and you’ll be hooked!

I never thought to spoon off the foam! Of course! Playoff games just got better…
Chelsea Johnson says
Right? It’s like, a more “pure” butter. And super good!

You are right, watching the big game without pizza is not the same and it’s not right, haha! I love the garlic sauce, it’s so easy to make. Everytime I order pizza I make sure I get garlic sauce to dip it in. I’m going to make your garlic butter dipping sauce!
Chelsea Johnson says
Good luck! I hope it turns out as good as mine was! Although I’m not sure it couldn’t, because it’s super easy!
Tayler Morrell says
Oooooh! Yum! I love Papa Johns’s sauce so I think I will pin this!
Chelsea Johnson says
Do it! It’s super yummy, and maybe even better than Papa John’s!
Lisa Favre says
I’m a huge fan of garlic and dipping ANY of my food items (especially extra-carby things, like my pizza crust) so I’ll definitely have to try this out.

Yes! I’m a huge fan of carbs and dipping them, too! As if carbs couldn’t get any better, right!?

Your recipe came up first in Google when I looked up “Papa John’s garlic dipping sauce!” You’re definitely onto blogger fame here, Chelsea! Can’t wait to try this recipe tonight. My pregnant self is craving egg rolls and pizza non-stop, haha. Take care!
Chelsea Johnson says
Nice! Thanks, Jelli!! Hope it hit the spot! Those pregnancy cravings can be the worst!

What is the best way to store this?
Chelsea Johnson says
In the fridge! I wouldn’t keep it more than a few days, though! It’s best when served immediately!
scott holloway says
Do you need to remove the stuff that settles at the bottom?
Chelsea Johnson says
No, just the foam on top.
Melanie says
Can you use this on pizza, instead of red sauce?
Chelsea Johnson says
It would probably be yummy if you brush it on the crust, but I don’t know how good it would be all over instead of pizza sauce. If you try it, let me know!
Melissann says
It’s definitely not a white sauce, but you could liberally brush a pizza with this and then follow with toppings like with a margherita one. I personally find them dry and would end up then dipping in pizza sauce. 😉
Chelsea Johnson says
Ooh, that does sound like a delicious idea!
Brooke says
Would this recipe work with salted butter? I unfortunately do not have any unsalted at the moment and I’d like to make this sauce to go with some store bought cheesey breadsticks.
Chelsea Johnson says
It probably would, but it would just be a bit saltier.
Phil says
I know this is an old comment, but just in case anyone reads this…using salted butter will definitely make an extra salty garlic butter dip!
A 1/2 cup (1 stick) of Land O Lakes salted butter alone contains the equivalent of about 3/8 tsp. of table salt. That’s 3x the amount of salt that this recipe calls for.
Chelsea Johnson says
Oooh, we’ll have to try that next time!
